Whether it be in your job or personal life, everyone feels burned out from time to time.
There are a few ways I have found to decrease burn out and the risk of future burn out. Let me know what you think, and if you have any other tips to share!
Realize You Come First
No matter what the reason is that you feel burned out, you need to remember that you always come first. Evaluate your life, see where you are over-extended, and make adjustments. Start by scheduling one hour a day for yourself- read a book, watch Netflix, play an instrument- whatever helps you relax!
Get Enough Sleep
You should always aim to get 8 hours of sleep a night. Most of us don’t consistently get that much sleep, but it’s important to actively try to, when possible. Get into bed earlier if that will help you get to sleep earlier. When I started actively getting into bed earlier than usual, I didn’t realize that that’s when my body actually needed to sleep. I felt like I was forcing myself to stay up later than my body wanted to, which can increase the effects of burn out.
Go To Therapy
Never underestimate the power of therapy. At the least, it is a good third party person you can vent and talk to about what is causing stress in your life. Don’t get frustrated if the first therapist you try isn’t a good fit for you. Sometimes it takes a few to find out that works well for your needs.
A good way to help with overall mindset and, in return, decrease burn out is to meditate for 10 minutes a day. Focusing on your breathing and setting your intention for the day can do wonders.
