A few years ago, I was moving and had to get rid of a lot of the clothing I had in my closet. It was also a time in my life I needed the extra money, so I decided to give Poshmark a try.
For those who don’t know, Poshmark is an online marketplace where you can sell, and buy, new and used clothing. I have sold and purchased a lot of great items over the past few years.
Since then, I have made around $1,500 and sold 180 items on Poshmark. See my advice below on how to be successful in selling your clothing!
Only Post Items That Are Good Quality
Make sure the items you are selling are something you yourself would want to buy. Don’t sell old clothing that has holes, stains, etc.
Go Through Your Closet Often
When I started truly analyzing every item in my closet, I realized how many items I never wear or even still had tags on them! I used to hold onto everything “incase I decided to wear it one day”, but if something had been in my closet for a long time with a tag, I had to be honest that it would probably never be worn. It’s important to be honest with yourself about items you no longer, or will never, wear.
Post At Fair Prices
I see a lot of people on Poshmark post things at prices that I believe are too high. For example, if you bought a shirt for $60, posting it used at $50 does not seem like a fair deal. People can also make offers on your items- you want to make money, but also realize that used items do deserve a bigger discount.
Make Sure Photos Accurately Portray The Item
Make sure the photos you post are in good lighting so the item is accurately portrayed and shows any flaws. The more photos the better! It’s also important to emphasize any flaws in the description so people are not surprised when they receive the item and it’s not what they expected.
Be Responsive To Questions & Comments
If people comment on your item, especially if they ask questions, it is important to answer quickly and to be honest. You should also be friendly- this goes a long way!
Ship Quickly & Wrap Nicely
When someone buys an item, put effort into the packaging. You should wrap the item in nice tissue paper. Adding a personalized thank you card is a nice touch. You should also make sure to ship the item quickly.
If you do all these, you will get good reviews that will show up on your page, and this will show other people you are a reputable seller. Before purchasing items from other sellers, I always read the reviews, so these are definitely important to be successful in the long run. Let me know if you have used Poshmark or a similar selling platform, and what you think about it!
