I am an emotional person, and I love to listen to sad songs or watch sad movies to really get a good cry out.
Over the years, there are a few movies that, time and time again, never fail to make me cry- see below for my top picks.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
This film is so powerful and makes you feel many different emotions. It follows a couple, Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet), that breakup and go through a procedure where you can erase people from your memory. If you haven’t seen it, I won’t say anything more than that- watching it for the first time is very much an experience. Eternal Sunshine is a heartbreaking and beautiful film that is sure to make you cry.
Blue Valentine follows a couple, Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams), from the start of their relationship to when their marriage starts falling apart. The film jumps back and forth between the two periods in their lives, showing the excitement of the beginning of their relationship versus the indifference of their future marriage.
Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a film with so many different emotional layers. The film follows Charlie (Logan Lerman), an introverted high schooler that is haunted by his past and feels like an outsider. He befriends older classmates of his and has to navigate life and all of the changes that happen in these relationships and himself. It is deeper than a typical “coming of age” film and copes with serious issues, such as mental illness and suicide.
The Fox And The Hound
For the last film on this list, I chose The Fox And The Hound. Even though this is a Disney cartoon, I can’t watch it without crying. The relationships between the dog, fox, and their human owner are so loving, and it becomes heartbreaking as the film progresses and the animals change. Even at the age of 27, just thinking about this film makes me tear up.
I’d love to hear what sad films are on your list- let me know in the comments!
